Vinačac Bay, Korcula – The Hidden Rocky Cove Between Prižba and Brna
Vinačac is a rocky bay on the south coast of Korcula, between Prižba and Brna, accessible via a turn-off so easy to miss that it has remained almost completely unknown despite sitting on one of the busier stretches of the south coast road. The turn-off is unmarked or minimally signed – if you blink while driving between Prižba and Brna, you will miss it entirely, which is exactly what most people do. The result is a bay that is genuinely empty even in the height of summer. The family who found it one afternoon – and stayed for two hours as the only people there – described it as one of the best moments of their Korcula holiday. What Vinačac is Like
The bay is rocky with a small paved concrete area at the waterline – not a pebble or sandy beach in the conventional sense, but a flat rocky platform that makes entry into the sea straightforward. The water is clear, and the bay is sheltered, typical of this stretch of the south coast. The combination of rocky shore and easy sea access suits swimmers and snorkellers who care more about water quality and solitude than a surface to lie on.
The surrounding vegetation – pine, maquis, rockrose – is dense and provides a degree of shade on the rocky margins of the bay. The south-facing position means the bay gets sun throughout the day and the water warms well in summer. Views across the open Adriatic towards Lastovo are clear and unobstructed.
No facilities of any kind. No restaurant, no bar, nothing within the bay itself. The nearest food and drink is in Prižba or Brna – both within a few kilometres by road. Bring everything you need for the day.
Why it Stays Empty
The reason Vinačac remains unknown comes down to two things: the easy-to-miss turn-off from the main coast road, and the rocky rather than pebble shore. Visitors looking for a beach on the south coast instinctively head to Brna, Prižba, Istruga or Žitna – places with pebble or sandy beaches and facilities. Vinačac has neither, so it never makes the shortlist. For anyone who values solitude over comfort, that trade-off is entirely worth making.
The korcula.net tip for finding the turn-off: driving west from Brna towards Prižba, watch for a narrow road to the left that descends towards the coast just after the main Brna bay. It is easy to pass at normal driving speed. Slow down on this section and look carefully – the road is there but not obvious. Once you find it, the descent to the bay takes a few minutes on a rough track.
Getting to Vinačac
By car from Korcula Town, take the main island road south towards Brna – about 40 minutes. From Brna, follow the coast road west towards Prižba and watch for the narrow unmarked turning south towards the coast. By boat, the bay is straightforward to reach from Brna or Prižba – a natural stop on a boat circuit of the south coast between the two settlements. No public transport. Water shoes recommended for the rocky waterline.
