How to get from Dubrovnik to Korčula?

If you are a foot passenger, there is a fast ferry catamaran that departs daily from Dubrovnik (Gruz port) to Korcula town. This is the fastest and most convenient way to travel. If you are driving and need a car ferry, there are no direct car ferries between these two places. You have to drive along the coast and across the Peljesac Peninsula to Orebic and cross to Korcula island by a car ferry.

The distance between Dubrovnik and Korcula island across the sea is 78 Km (48 nautical miles). The easiest way to travel is by fast passenger ferry (catamaran). Here are the details:

Krilo (Kapetan Luka)TP Line, and Jadrolinija are the three companies that run passenger ferries from Dubrovnik to Korcula. All depart from the same spot in Gruz ferry terminal in Dubrovnik (map) and arrive in Korcula town port.

Important Note: 

In case of bad weather, the catamaran (fast passenger ferries) is not sailing. In such circumstances, you have to travel via Orebic by bus or private transfer (details below)

By Car Ferry & Driving from Dubrovnik to Korcula

There are no direct car ferries connecting Dubrovnik and Korcula. Therefore, if you are driving, you have just one option (map below):

  • Step 1: Drive from Dubrovnik to Ston (Doli) via roads D8 & D414 road to Orebic
  • Step 2: cross by a car ferry from Orebic to Korcula (sails numerous times a day – see detailed info at croatiaferries.com site)

By this shortest and the fastest driving route, you can reach Korcula town from Dubrovnik in 2 hours. The car ferry route is operated by Jadrolinija (tickets & booking) Traveling on this route your driving time will be:

Driving tip

In the summer of 2022, for Ston to the Prapratno section (about 8 km), due to Peljesac Bridge roadworks, this drive may take a bit longer than usual. Upon all works are completed, the driving time between Doli (Ston) and Orebic will be reduced to 35 minutes only.

By Bus

If you prefer to travel by bus, you can get a bus to Korcula daily at 15:00. Bus departs from Dubrovnik’s bus terminal and drives to Orebic, gets on a car ferry from there, and drives to Korcula town and all other villages to Vela Luka. Buses are not frequent. It takes over 3 hours and costs 101 HRK one way (check schedules & get a ticket)

By Private Boat Transfer (Water Taxi)

A private boat transfer or water taxi is the quickest way to travel between these two places. The cost is 1000 Euro for groups of up to 7 people and it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes. It can be a great option if the weather is perfect and money is no problem. It is also a good option for a large(er) group of travelers. However, due to unpredictable weather, especially in the winter months, taxis, Uber, or private car transfers are more reliable (see below). Get a water taxi quote here.

By Taxi, Uber, or Private Car Transfer

taxi ride between Dubrovnik and Korcula lasts just over 2 hours including a car ferry crossing from Orebic. The current price quoted to me is 175 Euro (1300 HRK). The quote from UBER is 1200 HRK (170 Euro) to Orebic. This is a good option if 3 or more people travel together and share costs. You can lower the costs by taking a taxi from Dubrovnik to Orebic and crossing the channel as a foot passenger. Get a taxi quote here.

FAQ

  • Can I take bikes on a fast ferry? Yes, if you are traveling by bicycle you can take your bike on the foot passenger ferry. Advanced booking is recommended as bike spaces are limited.
  • Do I need a car in Dubrovnik and Korcula island? In Dubrovnik, you most probably do not need a car, as public transport is pretty good. However, on Korcula island, public transport is limited to infrequent local buses, so having a car is convenient. The alternative transport is a water taxi or taxi.

You have a couple of options:

  • Option 1: Get a bus or taxi from the Airport to the ferry port and continue to Korcula by ferry
  • Option 2: Get a bus or taxi from Airport to the bus terminal and proceed to Korcula by bus
  • Option 3: Private transfer, taxi, or Uber
  • Option 4: Water taxi from Cavtat (a town near the airport)
