How to get from Korcula to Split?

If you are a foot passenger, there is a fast ferry catamaran that departs daily from Korcula Old Town to Split. This is the most convenient and fastest way to travel. If you are driving and need a car ferry, there are no direct car ferries between these two places. You have to either cross to Orebic (Peljesac) by car ferry and continue from there to drive across the Peljesac Peninsula and Peljesac bridge to Split or drive to Vela Luka and get on a car ferry to Split.

The nearest distance between Korcula Island and Split, across the sea, is 57 nautical miles (106 km). The easiest way to travel is by fast passenger ferry (catamaran). Here are the details:

The three companies that run passenger ferries from Korcula to Split are Krilo (Kapetan Luka)TP Line, and Jadrolinija. Ferries depart from Korcula Town port, Prigradica, or Vela Luka and arrive at the same terminal in Split (see location map here) & a short video here.

Important Note: 

In case of bad weather, the catamaran (fast passenger ferries) is not sailing. In such circumstances, you have to travel by car ferry via Vela Luka or Orebic. (see details below)

By Car Ferry and driving from Korcula to Split

The direct car ferry that connects Korcula Island and Split is via Vela Luka. So, if you are driving, you have just this option or alternatively, driving via car ferry to Orebic (check also the map below):

  • Step 1: Cross to the mainland by a car ferry from Korcula to Orebic (sails up to 15 times a day – see detailed schedule at croatiaferries.com website)
  • Step 2: Drive from Orebic to Split via Peljesac bridge using road E65.

By this shortest and fastest driving route, you can reach Split from Korcula in about 3 hours. The car ferry route is operated by Jadrolinija (tickets) Traveling on this route your driving time will be:

Driving tips

  • Instead of driving all the way around, consider getting a car ferry from Vela Luka to Split (twice-a-day departures)
  • The Prapratno to Ston (Doli) section of the road (Peljesac Bridge access road) is now completed, and driving is much more pleasant than before.

By Bus

If you prefer to travel by bus, you can get a bus from Korcula daily at 21:30 arriving in Split at 01:00. The bus departs from Korcula’s bus terminal and gets on a car ferry to Orebic and from there drives to Split. Buses are not frequent, they run just once a day. It takes 3.5 hours and costs 24 Euro one way (check schedules & get a ticket)

By Water Taxi (Private Boat Transfer)

A water taxi (private boat transfer) is the quickest way to travel between these two places. The cost is 1150 Euro for groups of up to 7 people and it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. It can be a great option if the weather is perfect and money is no problem. It is also a good option for a large(er) group of travelers. However, due to unpredictable weather, especially in the winter months, taxis or private car transfers are more reliable (see below).

By Taxi or Private Car Transfer

taxi ride between Korcula and Split lasts just over 3 hours including a car ferry crossing to Orebic. The current price quoted to me is 390 Euros. This is a good option if 3 or more people travel together and share the costs. You can lower the costs a bit by crossing the channel to Orebic as a foot passenger and taking a taxi from there to Split. Get a taxi quote.
