How to get from Dubrovnik to Korcula?

If you are a foot passenger, there is a fast ferry catamaran that departs daily from Dubrovnik (Gruz port) to Korcula town. This is the fastest and most convenient way to travel. If you are driving and need a car ferry, there are no direct car ferries between these two places. You have to drive along the coast and across the Peljesac Peninsula to Orebic and cross to Korcula island by car ferry.

All depart from the same spot in Gruz ferry terminal in Dubrovnik (map) and arrive in Korcula town port. Important note: April to October catamaran ferries proceed to Split (Dubrovnik to Split details). If you are island hopping, you can continue your journey with the same vessels later on/ in the following days.

Important Note: 

In case of bad weather, the catamaran (fast passenger ferries) is not sailing. In such circumstances, you have to travel via Orebic by bus or private transfer (details below)

By Car Ferry & Driving from Dubrovnik to Korcula

There are no direct car ferries connecting Dubrovnik and Korcula. Therefore, if you are driving, you have just one option (map below):

  • Step 1: Drive from Dubrovnik to Ston (Doli) via roads D8 & D414 road to Orebic
  • Step 2: cross by a car ferry from Orebic to Korcula (sails numerous times a day – see detailed info at croatiaferries.com site)

By this shortest and fastest driving route, you can reach Korcula town from Dubrovnik in 2 hours. The car ferry route is operated by Jadrolinija (tickets & booking) Traveling on this route your driving time will be:

Driving tip

Ston to the Prapratno section (about 8 km), was slow due to the Peljesac Bridge roadworks. All works are now completed, and the driving time between Doli (Ston) and Orebic is reduced to 35 minutes only.

By Bus

If you prefer to travel by bus, you can get a bus to Korcula daily at 15:00. Bus departs from Dubrovnik’s bus terminal and drives to Orebic, gets on a car ferry from there, and drives to Korcula town and all other villages to Vela Luka. Buses are not frequent. It takes over 3 hours and costs 11 Euros one way (check schedules & get a ticket)

By Private Boat Transfer (Water Taxi)

A private boat transfer or water taxi is the quickest way to travel between these two places. The cost is 1000 Euro for groups of up to 7 people and it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes. It can be a great option if the weather is perfect and money is no problem. It is also a good option for a large(er) group of travelers. However, due to unpredictable weather, especially in the winter months, taxis, Uber, or private car transfers are more reliable (see below). Get a water taxi quote here.

By Taxi, Uber, or Private Car Transfer

taxi ride between Dubrovnik and Korcula lasts just over 2 hours including a car ferry crossing from Orebic. The current price quoted to me is 175 Euro. The quote from UBER is 170 Euros to Orebic. This is a good option if 3 or more people travel together and share the costs. You can lower the costs by taking a taxi from Dubrovnik to Orebic and crossing the channel as a foot passenger.
