Fishing in Korcula
The Island of Korcula is an ideal destination for a fishing or angling holiday, where most styles of sea angling can be done on or around the Island.
We’re an Island, so naturally, we are surrounded by sea and the water is full of fish – in fact, the island’s coastline has some of the best fishing locations in the area, like 190 kilometers of coastline available for a beach, shore and rock fishing. If you are a boat angler, you can fish from your own boat or charter a boat trip.

Winter is the best time of the year for rock and beach fishing when no tourists are around.
The sport or pastime of fishing with a rod and line from the local piers can be done in summers too, just try to find a quiet location with no tourists. You can catch a variety of local fish including nice species of sea bream if you’re lucky.
Spring and autumn are good for lure spin fishing for sea bass are easily accessible for the visiting angler.
The best fishing locations are obviously in the remotest areas of the island including Defora coast. However, a lot of fish is caught on the rocks that are pretty central in villages and towns around the island.

Boops boops or bogue that I caught recently. It is a species of sea bream and is the best for cathing in autumn.
Fishing equipment / Tackle shops
If you need to buy your fishing gear, there is a shop in Korcula Town that sells most of the stuff you need for simple angling/fishing. They can provide all the tackle and bait to suit local conditions as well as up-to-date news and advice as to the best spots and tactics. The guys who are working there are pretty knowledgeable but try not to nag them with too many questions 😉
