You will cross the channel by this ferry if you are driving from Dubrovnik, from Mljet, or from Hvar or if you are getting to and from the island by bus. If you are driving from Split, you may use another car ferry that goes to Vela Luka. This is the main car ferry to the island. It crosses the shortest route to and from the island at the nearest point to the mainland.
Car Ferry Facilities
Currently, the vessel that serves this route is ‘Sveti Krševan‘, which is a ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) car and passenger ferry meaning you will embark via one ramp and disembark at the other end via another ramp. You will not need to reverse before disembarkation which is very handy and efficient.
Sveti Krševan is fairly large and sturdy (88 x 17 m), and has the capacity of more than 100 cars and several hundred passengers, so getting a place on this ferry is pretty easy.
There is a small cafe/restaurant on the ferry where you can get coffee & refreshments as well as basic food like sandwiches or a chocolate bar. Toilets are also available. This is a pretty comfortable ferry serving this short, 15 minutes journey across the Peljesac channel.
Travel tip: Once you embark, leave your car in the garage and climb the stairs to get to the top deck where there is a cafe and plenty of outside seating available. From there, you will have amazing views over the channel. Make sure you wear appropriate clothing.
