Kamenjak Island, Korcula – Rocky Islet in the Škoji Archipelago
Kamenjak is one of the smaller islets in the Korcula archipelago — a compact rocky island between Vrnik and Soline bay, with a wild shoreline, some pebble patches, and clear water good for snorkelling. It sees very few visitors even in summer, which is partly a function of its size and partly because it has no facilities and no regular water taxi connection. For kayakers and boaters willing to seek it out, Kamenjak offers genuinely quiet swimming in clean water with views across the inner archipelago in every direction.
What Kamenjak is Like
The island’s shoreline is predominantly rocky — large limestone formations running down to the water with some pebble patches in the more sheltered indentations. There are no sandy beaches, and landing requires picking your spot carefully depending on conditions. The rocky base of the island drops into clear water with good visibility, making it one of the better snorkelling spots in the inner archipelago — sea urchins, fish and the characteristic transparent water of the Skoji group all present.
Like Planjak and Sutvara, Kamenjak was one of the quarrying islands of the archipelago – historical records confirm limestone extraction here alongside the other Skoji islets. The evidence is less visible than on Vrnik, but the island’s rocky character reflects centuries of human interaction with its stone.
Kamenjak sits close to the Soline shore and is one of the nearer islets to the Soline kayak launch point, making it a natural first stop on a morning paddle before heading to Badija or further into the archipelago. Its proximity to the mainland shore means paddling conditions here are among the most sheltered in the group.
Getting to Kamenjak
No water taxi serves Kamenjak. Access is by private boat, hired boat, or kayak from Soline — the closest mainland launch point, about 15-20 minutes paddling. The rocky shoreline requires care when landing — approach slowly, check for submerged rocks and choose a landing spot in calm water. Bring everything you need as there are no facilities of any kind on the island. Water shoes are essential.
